I might be dead now if not for Dr Kirk. He ordered a colonoscopy. Results: prompt surgery needed to investigate a possibly cancerous growth. Surgery in Calgary removed it. It was benign but the surgeon said 95 per cent of the time they become cancerous if not removed. I dodged a bullet! Thanks Dr Kirk...

When we first moved to Canmore from another country I waited in the ER for over 4 hours - in severe pain. Okay, so maybe they were busy, I'll concede to that. The first GP I saw informed me "You have 15 minutes and we will only discuss ONE issue. If you have any other medical issues, make another appointment." My friend laughed "welcome to socialist medicine." I was heartbroken. Why even bother going to the doctor? Why convey your personal medical history -not to mention that of your kids to someone who is so in-personable and wants you in an out quickly as possible? Dr.Kirks colleagues should thank him - for he saved the lot if them. He is very personable and takes the time to get to know you. Dr. Kirk doesn't just hear what you say- he takes the time to listen. If he doesn't know an answer, he'll research it. He is wonderful with my kids and even offers to see them at lunch if he is booked. Thank God we found him :-)

It sounds like the cacenr has spread which is common with many Breast cacenr patients. The spread most common is for the cacenr to go to the lungs ( often to the brain). With lung involvement, the tumors block off normal circulation to the lung tissue fluid accumulates, causing problems breathing also fluid retention in the lung lower parts of the stomach legs.Since the doctors are not going to do further treatments for her, she really needs hospice to be called (your doctor should OK this his office should be able to refer you to a hospice in your area).Usually hospice comes in during the last 6 months I think from what you say that is probably her prognosis.Hospice Nurses will come in, do an assessment order medications to help with her pain breathing, for now she needs to be made comfortable. No one knows how long she has for it could be days or months, but she deserves to be kept comfortable. They also will get her medical equipment (hospital bed, wheelchair, commode, walker, and oxygen to help her breathing), and arrange for nurses aide visits.Concentrate on making her comfortable now. God bless.
